RIGOROUS EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Ellen Mahony, MD received a degree in physical therapy from the University of Connecticut in 1979, and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in International Health Care from Yale University Graduate School. With an advanced degree in public health, she traveled to Africa to engage in research with the Hanang Village Health project in Tanzania, which became the platform for Tanzania’s nationalized healthcare program.
Upon Ellen’s return to the States, she entered medical school at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, and became one of only a select few female physicians invited to enter the University’s General Surgery Residency. She completed a Hand and Microsurgery fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, and successfully completed their highly-acclaimed Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency.

NOTABLE AWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS

Over the course of her career, Ellen has been awarded research and merit scholarships, and recognized with several awards from professional medical organizations, including the American Medical Association (AMA). She is one of the few female plastic surgeons in Connecticut to be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a member of The American College of Surgeons and The American Society for Aesthetic Surgery. She is certified to practice in Connecticut, New York and Maine, and is also a licensed physical therapist in the state of Connecticut.

ACCOMPLISHED ON MANY LEVELS

Ellen has authored several research articles and publications on the topics of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, and has graced the cover of the Philadelphia Inquirer. She has appeared on national television, been featured in an edition of Ladies Home Journal magazine, and appeared in the book The Power to Heal. She is a lifelong athlete who enjoys tennis, sailing, travel, sculpting, and reading.
